Accessible Parking Spaces – Fact:

When a business re-stripes a parking lot, it must provide accessible parking spaces as required by the ADA Standards for Accessble Design.

Did you Know…..

Businesses or privately owned facilities that provide goods or services to the public have a continuing ADA obligation to remove barriers to access in existing parking lots when it is readily achievable to do so.  Because re-striping is relatively inexpensive, it is readily achievable in most cases.

Minimum Number of Accessible Spaces Required
ADA Standards for Accessible Design 4.1.2(5)

1-25 stalls requires 1 ADA stall – Van Accessible
26-50 stalls requires 2 ADA stall – Van Accessible
51-75 stalls requires 3 ADA stall – Van Accessible
76-100 stalls requires 4 ADA stall – Van Accessible
101-150 stalls requires 5 ADA stall – Van Accessible
151-200 stalls requires 6 ADA stall – Van Accessible
201-300 stalls requires 7 ADA stall – Van Accessible
301-400 stalls requires 8 ADA stall – Van Accessible
401-500 stalls requires 9 ADA stall – Van Accessible

All Accessible stalls must have a min. 60″ wide access aisle, all “Van Accessible” stalls must have a min. 96″ wide aisle.
